What are sexual steroids?

Sexual steroids are fat -soluble compounds that are important in reproduction, sexual function and sexual development. The endocrine glands are responsible for the production of sexual steroids in both men and women. In most human beings, sex steroids are excreted throughout their lives, although the level of production and relaxation often differs. For example, the level of production often increases when a person reaches puberty and then decreases in conjunction with age.

Although both women and men produce sexual steroids, women usually produce estrogen and progesterone. On the other hand, men usually produce testosterone and other androgens, which are hormones that control the characteristics that are primarily male. Interestingly, women also have androgens and men have estrogen in their bodies. Androgens, which are made in the female body, usually turn into estrogens. Likewise, some of the male androgens also become estrogens.

Processions that affect sexual steroid production, are complicated and interesting. When a human being reaches puberty, the gland in the brain makes a larger substance called hormone releasing gonadotropin. Increased production of hormone releasing gonadotropin, in turn, causes pituitary to release hormones that are critical of sexual steroid production. These hormones are referred to as hormone stimulating follicles and luteinizing hormone. The release of these hormones stimulates the production of sex steroids in both men and women.

estrogens that create the female body play an important role in preparing the body for ovulation and pregnancy. They also affect the development of female sexual characteristics, including breast growth and the development of a female pelvis. Estrogens even play a role in how fat and muscles are distributed in the female body. Progesteronje is decisive for maintaining pregnancy and affects the conditions inside the uterus.

male production of testosterone and and androsterone that are both androgens, occurs in the testes. Testosterone is decisive for the creation of sperm. As with estrogens affecting the development of female characteristics, androgens affect male characteristics. For example, they affect muscle and body hair growth and deeper voices that are typical of men. They also affect the development of male genital organs.

sexual steroids naturally occur in the human body, but can also be used in medical treatments. For example, doctors can use them in the treatment of various types of cancer. They may also prove to be useful for the treatment of menopause symptoms. In fact, these hormones can even help in the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis.
