What are the different types of infection?

The three main types of infection can affect animals and plants. Bacterial infections are relatively common and occur when unicellular microorganisms, known as bacteria, attack the body. Viral infections such as influenza are caused by viruses and can be somewhat difficult to treat. Fungal infections are caused by fungi and they usually develop on the skin of a person.
