What is Leydig's cell tumor?

Leydig Cell Tumor is an unusual type of growth that develops most often in the testes or testicles. Most Leydig Cell tumors are benign or non -skin, but in about ten percent of cases they are malignant or cancer. Leydig cell tumor often produces hormones that can cause the development of female or male characteristics, depending on the specific hormone excreted. Occasionally, women may develop leydig cell tumors, leydig cells inside the ovaries.

Leydig cell tumors usually occur in men and the cause is unknown. There may be no symptoms, but sometimes the Leydig Cell tumor can cause a painless lump that is large enough to feel. If tumors secrete excessive amounts of male hormones, this can lead to what is called androgen -dependent syndromes, causing early puberty in boys and masculinization in women. Sometimes female hormones can be produced by Leydig Cell tumor, leading to physical changes, such as breast enlargement in men. Óvarlata may feel painful or unpleasant.

Leydig cell tumor treatment will vary depending on whether it is malignant or not. Benign tumor can sometimes be surgically extracted without removal of the testes. Malignant tumors areIn testicular cancer A, as is the case with other types of cancer, treatment and outlook depends on how far the disease has spread. Surgery and chemotherapy are the main possibilities of treatment and testicles and nearby lymph nodes may need to be removed. For people with benign tumors, the view is usually positive.
