What is cycling?
Cyclothymia is a mood disorder that is at the bottom of the spectrum of more aggressive mood disorders such as bipolar I and II. Cyclothymia is characterized by a short period of slight depression and hypomania. In many cases, hypomania is particularly good or enthusiastic, so it can only be considered a "good" mood. These cycles may follow several months of “normal” mood.
Many people who have cycling, are not looking for treatment because the period of depression and hypomania is short. However, some are disturbed by these mild swings and will seek treatment from an expert in mental health. If it turns at any time during the mood, the patient becomes manic, rather than hypomanic, is rediagnosed as a bipolar disorder. Also, if the period of depression has been for more than two months, the diagnosis of bipolar disorder or high depression may be given. It does not affect more serious symptoms, can be managed by cognitive behavioral therapy. For others there isMood destabilization so often that people will look for medication. People can use low -dose mood stabilizers and occasionally antidepressant to help solve persistent cycling.
in cycling is obviously genetic bond, although real genes that can affect mood have not been identified. However, twins studies show a high level of state present in both twins, although the twins are fraternal. This suggests that cyclingmia can be inherited from one or both parents.
cyclothymya may be present in early adulthood or even earlier. However, it is harder to diagnose in adolescence, as adolescent moods tend to be destabilized by hormonal flow. However, people can look back at the childhood and notice the patterns of activity and non-activity that could indicate early cycling.
Some people with cycling will proceed to bipolar I orII, but many of them will never do. It is not clear what factors suggest such a procedure. It is possible that external factors such as trauma or post -traumatic stress
The occurrence of occurrence tends to be similar to both men and women. Women are more likely to demand treatment. About 1% of the population may be subject to cycling. This is interesting because most of them know a person or two who could be characterized as a "moody". It is possible due to the tolerance for a person considered the mood that cycling occurs to a greater extent than is currently diagnosed.
