What is the petabyte?

In the world of ever -increasing data capacity, Petabyte represents the boundary just before the teraby, which leads itself just before Gigabyte. In other words, 1,024 gigabytes are one terabyt and 1,024 terabytes are one petabyte. To mention this in the perspective, Petabyte is about one million gigabytes (1,048 576).

At the end of the 80s. A large hard disk was considered 80 megabytes. Today, this amount of space is not held by the current Windows operating system without capturing against storage limits. Robust programs, music files, digital versatile discs (DVDs), video streaming and high -resolution graphics have become memorial animals that absorb bits with real estate property from byte. In the age of 80, it would be unthinkable that a home computer will one day require tens and even hundreds of gigabytes to store data. Although Petabyte still lies outside Terabayte, who can say where the home computer will be in the next two decades?

It is a humiliating thought that the powerful petabyteIt stores individual bits. Creating a byte that represents a single character takes eight bits. For example, the word "bit" has a magic of 24 bits or three bytes.

put together 1,024 bytes and you have a kilobyte. Take the same amount of kilobytes (1,024) and built a megabyt; 1,024 megabytes and you have gigabytes - and so on to get terabyt and finally petabyte. So how many bits are there in Petabayte? Stunning 9,007,199,254,740,990 !

For the average person, the number crushes when moving to Petabyte a little furry, but does not stop there. Behind Petabyte are exabyt, Zetbyte and Yottabyte. While some may still get used to the idea that 1,024 megabytes are equal to one gigabyte, we are quickly coming to a time when people will refer to the storage of "half terabyte", rather than 500 gigabytes. For nowČe, such as Indiana University, European Nuclear Research Organization (CERN) and IBM Global Services. We can only hope that at a time when a home user buys storage capacity from Petabyte, the defragmentation programs maintained the pace.
