What is a holographic repository?

holographic storage is a type of data storage that uses light and holography to create data storage that can be significantly larger and faster than magnetic or optical storage devices. Many different companies are working on creating storage devices that use holography to write and read data. Finally, despite the potential benefits associated with this type of storage, other data storage options may prove to be more feasible and more cost -effective. Holographic storage can be used both for storage with one media miracle and for rewritten storage, although it would require somewhat more complicated technology. This is historically used to produce three -dimensional (3D) holographic images by means of light to create a "recording" of an object to a surface made from a photo sensitive material. The 3D image can then be re -created using only light.

holographic storage devicewould use the same technology to create "recordings" that are not for the purposes of creating 3D images, but to store data on photos sensitive materials, which could then be placed inside a hard disk or similar storage device. In principle, two laser beams are used: one is called a reference beam and the other lighting or signal beam. Two rays create a formula of interference, which sweat material sensitive to the photo, as well as when creating a holographic image. By using another laser beam at the same angle, data in the holographic storage can be loaded and displayed on the computer screen in the same way that data from a magnetic or optical storage device is obtained.

Optical and magnetic storage methods record data in individual bits in Invorba and holographic storage use the same process. However, a small area used in a holographic repository can hold numerous pieces of data that effectively overlap and may be obviousa dull change of the angle of used rays. This means that the same amount of physical space used in holography can store much more data than what is possible compared to magnetic or optical storage.

Holographic storage also has access to data bits in parallel, over the beam of light, rather than one bit of a second, which worsens the recording and search data significantly faster than other media. Most photos sensitive materials can provide only one data writing, although information could be read many times and would probably take a century. Some types of crystals could probably be used for overwritten holographic storage, because some crystals have properties called a photorephractive effect that allows you to record holograms several times and changed.
