What is entablature?

On the column building, the section between the upper part of the columns and the roof is called Entablature. Three parts, cornice, frieze and architects, were designed to complement different types of columns. The cut, which extends over the roof, and architerave, which is even with frieze, is divided into several sections and have solid patterns. The frieze is usually the most amazing part of the entablature and sometimes shows carvings that tell stories. Elgin balls at the British Museum are probably the most famous example of the frieze section. Classic entablatutura consists of three sections: cornice, frieze and architect. The design of each section would differ slightly according to the style of the column supporting entablature. The width was also based on the height of the columns.

The highest part of the entablature is Cornice. It is ornamental formation, often has two to three different geometric or floral patterns. The cornice also extends further than the other two parts because it must meet and support the roof.

At the bottom of the entablature, architerave is the main beam, which rests on the upper part of the columns and extends approximately with the frieze. This part is also sometimes divided into several parts such as cornice, but is often the strongest part. Architerave is closest to the support rays observed in the ceilings.

The central part of the entablature is frieze. Although it was sometimes omitted, most of the time was the sophisticated, decorative part of the entablature. The most complicated frieze would not repeat the picture around the whole building, but instead showed the whole story.

Perhaps the best -known example of entablature can be farther in Athens in Greece. At the beginning of the 18th century a number of statues and a large part of the internal frieze of the building were removed and transported to the British Museum. In London it is called Elgin Marbles, almost 250 feet (75 m) frieze. Due to the damage of the Parthenone of war and pollution over the years, Elgin Marbles may be the best record of the original building.
