What is bisacodyl?
Bisacodyl is a short -term laxative used to treat occasional congestion seizures. This drug can also be used to empty the intestines before various medical procedures or surgery. Bisacodyl is available with or without a prescription and comes in the form of a tablet, suppository or enema. The patient should tell a doctor about any current drugs used because some medicines such as Aspirin may respond negatively to Bisacodyl. Bisacodyl tablets are usually taken night before medical procedure or examination and tend to produce bowel movement with six to eight hours. These tablets should be swallowed whole and should never be crushed or chewed. These tablets should not be used within one hour of using antacid or drinking milk.
