What are bile acids?

bile acids are compounds that produce the liver to help digest diet fats. Two common examples are chenodeoxycholic and cholic acid. Acids move from the liver to the gallbladder, which concentrates them from relaxing into the intestines after a meal. Their levels in the body may vary depending on health and the last time someone ate, and the doctor may ask for a test to check them if there are concerns about the patient, gallbladder or health health.
