What is the epigastrium?

The abdomen is divided into nine different anatomical areas. epigastrium is the name of the central upper abdomen and is located between two areas called left and right hypochondria. The middle abdominal part includes the left lumbar, umbilical and right lumbar areas. The lower part includes the left ileae, the hypogastric area and the right ileae. This method of division and classification of the region is useful because it provides doctors and surgeons a way to accurately record the symptoms of the patient and locate the structures in the body.

The two organs and parts of two other organs are located in the epigastrium. In this part of the abdomen are a pancreas that eliminates the digestive enzymes, and the duodenum, which is part of the small intestine, are in this part of the abdomen. There are also parts of the stomach, where digestion and liver begins, which is important in metabolism, detoxification and digestion.

with four main body organs or body structures, either partially or fully placed here, the epigastrium can be influenceNot a wide range of benign or serious health problems. For most of these health conditions, the most common symptom is simply pain in the epigastrium. Depending on the disease and by the organ, a number of other symptoms may be present in addition to pain.

is one of the most common health problems that affect the epigastrium is gastritis. This condition occurs when the stomach lining is inflamed, often due to excessive use or alcohol or non -steroidal anti -inflammatory drugs. Gastritis can also develop as a result of infection using Helicobacter pylori , traumatic damage to the epigastric area, anemia or stress.

Other types of inflammation or infection may affect the epigastric area. These include pancreatitis, which is an inflammation of the peritoneal membranes or peritonitis. This membrane line most of the abdominal cavity and because of this peritonitis can affect other čpart of the abdomen in addition to the epigastric part.

In the epigastric part of the abdomen, several types of keel and cancer may also develop. Possible cancer include stomach, pancreatic and liver cancer. Benign tumors called hemangiomas can also develop here. These are clusters of blood vessels that can develop spontaneously in certain organs, most often in the liver.

One of the most serious causes of epigastric pain is a heart attack. The pain that develops can be confused with simple heartburn or digestive problems, but it is dangerous to ignore this type of pain. Epigastric symptoms may mean a relatively small condition such as gastritis or something more serious, and therefore these symptoms should always be taken seriously.
