What is the ABEL price?

The first ABEL prize was awarded in 2003 France Jean-Pierre Serre for his work on the theory of numbers, algebraic geometry and topology, which is the study of geometric characters and the effects of bending and stretching. Mathematicians feel that the recognition of the mathematics area has been delayed for a long time, as Nobel's prizes have been awarded for more than a hundred years.

In 2001, the idea of ABEL was revived and the group convened to discuss the conditions of the price, its statutes and how the nomination process would work. The proposal for the ABEL Award was sent to the Prime Minister of Norway.

The Prime Minister supported this idea and announced the establishment of the fund at the end of 2001 to support the ABEL Award.
