What is the Curie temperature?

Curie temperature is a point in which materials lose pheromagnetism, the ability to harmonize its atoms even in the absence of a magnetic field. They become paramagnetic and require the external magnetic field to magnetize and remain in this state. Magnetic materials can change properties at different temperatures, but are often relatively high. When the temperature drops again, the material restores its magnetism and shows that the phase change is reversible. The phenomenon of Curie temperature is named for the well -known researcher Pierre Curie. If the field is removed, magnetism remains because the material has a form of memory. This can be used to produce permanent magnets and demonstrate various interesting physical phenomena. However, paragnetic materials require to maintain the external magnetic field magnetized.

Curie, thermal atoms inside the material so much that they cannot cope and lose magnetism. This can have important consequences. For example, in geology, high heat may occur in lightning and volcanic strokesand is able to cause a change in the properties of minerals in the Earth's crust. Observers looking at magnetic minerals must consider their history and what could affect them.

It can also be important for magnetic materials used in high heat environment. If the temperature is too high, it can lose its properties and may fail as expected. A simple example is sometimes used for demonstrations in scientific classes, where the lecturer shows how heating over the Curie temperature causes the consumption of paper or a small metal object to lose its attraction to the magnet. In a situation where the magnetic attraction could be able to do a process or function, the Curie temperature would be undesirable.

Data sheets on the properties of ferromagnetic and ferrimagnetic materials discuss their Curie temperatures. This information is provided for information so the peopleThey know how the materials should behave in response to temperature changes. For companies that prepare products, it may be particularly important to have the technical specifications of the materials used so that they can plan design and function accordingly. If the material lost its magnetic attraction in normal use, the company may have to choose another material that could be used in production.
