What is pika?

Pika is a mammal in the Ochotonidae family, located between the same order as hares and rabbits. This rabbit relative can be found in North America and parts of Eurasia and is strongly similar to hamsters, although Pikas is actually not really related to hamster. Some concerns about the spades have been raised, because these animals are vulnerable to the destruction of habitats and climate change, leading to endangering several species, especially in North America. They are also called mice hares, rock rabbits or Central Asian rabbits. It seems that the name "pika" comes from the Russian word picat , which means "whistle". These animals are extremely shy and very small, which is difficult to see them in the wild, unless they spend months study, but some zoo have pika populations for people who would like to look at the animal.

picas are brownish to gray colors and live mainly in high altitudes in rocky oBlastech and use the rocks for shelter. During the summer, Pika reaps and heals food to be used during the slim months of winter because animals are active throughout the year. Most picas are particularly active during the day, some live in family colonies, while others decide to live themselves. Pikas carry a litter of five to six individuals and have a very short period of pregnancy, as well as many of their rabbit relatives.

In North America, biologists are afraid of climate change on PIK. Normally rising temperatures would lead these animals to simply travel north and look for a more hospitable climate. North American spades, however, have very limited ranges that live on the islands of habitats in the middle of human civilization. As a result, they cannot migrate to find the best places to live and their habitats are rapidly limited due to interference.

In Eurasia, the situation of pika is not so serious, although animals are hunted and are prone to pollution and interference of habitats,Because the expanding human population requires more space. In some areas, this animal is considered a pest, because it eats grain and other sources and people can interpret traps and poison to control the pika population. In addition to achieving the desired goal of reducing the number of picas in this area, Poison also hurts other animals in the same environment that use PIK as a food source.
