What is the complementary design in football?
The additional design of the National Football League (NFL) is a rarely used option for the selection of university players who generally have lost their university eligibility to play football. The complementary design usually takes place in the summer, but it is not uncommon that no players are selected. The first complementary proposal came in 1977, when Notre Dame is running back Al Hunter was declared academically unfit to play university football. The 1977 NFL proposal has already taken place, but rather than waiting for the proposal and power of Hunter to miss the whole season of football, the NFL decided to have a proposal specifically for him.
A supplementary design is now usually used for players with problems with eligibility or players who miss the term for NFL design for one or the other. However, the selection in the additional design is rare. In the first 26 years of the additional design, only 32 players were selected compared to more than 200 Chosen players each year in the NFL design.
The additional design format has evolved over the years. When it started, the NFL teams pulled the names out of the hat to determine the order. Then each team would have a chance to design or go through. What discouraged teams from designing players, in addition to the lack of players eligible for complementary design, was the fact that any selection used would lead to a loss of selection in the following year. If the player was selected in the fourth round of the additional design, this team would lose their fourth selection in the following proposal.
Order for additional design is now determined by the NFL proposal from the previous year. The team, which chose the first in a normal design, gets the first chance to select an additional design. Rather than passing, choosing from the selection, with most passing teams, teams are obliged to place the "offer" for any sail to choose in the additional design. However, the teams have motivated to make a reasonable offer, because the next year they lose their selection based on what the player is selected. So if the VL teamHe gets the second round to players, he will receive this player if no team has given him the first round and if no team he chooses before, he did not give him a second offer.
