What is dirt?
The dirt conveyor is a system designed specifically for moving dirt or soil from one particular location to another using the belts and pulley system. Many dirt systems are portable and can be towed by a truck or other towing vehicle, so they must be somewhat compact and easily maneuver. The belt itself will vary from other transport belts in its design: it will contain upright stops known as football boots to prevent dirt backwards into the transport system when it is placed on the union. This means that the user can effectively pull out dirt to a higher place or down to a lower place. The cradle, which can be made of rubber or metal, creates a range of troughs along the belt in which the soil can be easily thrown and moved along the track. The width of the belt and the height of the football boots usually dictates how much material can move on dirt at the same time; Wider belts and higher football boots mean that more material can be moved.
The side walls of the side walls create a trough on both sides of the dirt belt. This trough is usually made of steel for durability and strength. The Tumgh prevents the materials from spilling from the transport system, which makes it more efficient and less sloppy. The trough may or may not be a structural element of dirt; Most conveyors will have a welded steel frame outside the riverbed for rigidity and pulleys that make up the transport system will be mounted on this frame. The belt will roller around the pulleys and both end pulleys can be adjustable, so the belt tension can be changed quickly and easily.
pulleys will have sealed bearings to allow free and easy cylinder movement. This is important because the use of impurities could otherwise operate into the bearings, thereby increasing the speed at which the bearings wear and require replacement. Closed bearings are full grease and then sealed firmly so that the dirt can not penetrate. Once the bearings wear out, they can simply be a recordingny new. Sometimes the end pulleys will only have sealed bearings, while on other systems all pulleys or cylinders will contain seal bearings.
